Dear Political Leader:

I have been following the journey of Alexandra and Paige Misener, and their father Clayton, the family that fled from an abusive situation in Ontario that the police, social services and courts failed to properly address. I am writing because I support their decision to run, and stand in solidarity with them as they continue their journey. I am deeply concerned that these young girls not only fell through the cracks of a system that is supposed to protect them, but had to flee to another country in search of safety. I am even more concerned about the tactics used by the Canadian government to try to force them back, against their wishes, putting their safety in jeopardy.

The government of Canada has worked tirelessly with the French in Saint Pierre and Miquelon to bully, intimidate, seize and even torture this family, revictimizing them over and over again. The government of Canada is responsible for putting this family through more than eighteen court tribunals in seven months and hasn't won once. I am deeply ashamed by the actions my government has taken. It is not Canadian. It has to stop, now.

The Misener family has already proven that these two girls went through living hell at the hands of their mother's boyfriend. They have already proven that the entire child protection system in Ontario failed to protect them, they just didn't believe them and didn't bother to properly investigate. They have also proven that the French government is, at the request of the Canadian government, using vicious and dispicable treatment and legal onslaughts. Despite all of this, the government of Canada continues to grind and pressure this family in retaliation for the embarassment they have caused.

I fail to see how Canada can rationalize its continued revictimization of this family, and I call on you to put an end to it. I encourage you to read the facts. They are available at www.runningaway.ca. I demand that the government stop this insane revictimization, stop taking this aggressive attitude toward this family and set them free so they can leave Saint Pierre and find safety somewhere else. Both governments should be deeply ashamed of themselves and they should apologize to the Miseners, compensate them and set them free. That is the only appropriate course of action to be taken here.

I am absolutely disgusted at our police, our courts and all of the systems that failed this family. This is going to be an election issue for me.

Please do right by this family and set them free before its too late.

Yours truly,
